Client Challenge

The textbook rental program at Trinity School of Texas had become a big expense for the school and worse yet, provided students and teachers with outdated classroom materials. The school charged parents a minimal textbook rental rate in order to keep tuition and fees affordable. However, low rental fees, paired with high inventory costs, resulted in the school being forced to extend the shelf life of books beyond what was acceptable to school administrators. At times, administrators were left scrambling to replace lost books or to find books for new students, meaning some kids started class without books. Charlene Miller, Trinity School's Head of School knew it was time for a change, stating, "The hassle of managing a textbook program was just beyond what we could staff." Trinity School of Texas needed a textbook solution that was financially sound for the school, yet advantageous for parents and students.

Solution

MBS Direct was able to relieve the textbook worries for the staff at Trinity School of Texas by creating an online bookstore solution that eliminates the need to manage costly inventory. "With MBS Direct, we aren't handling books at all and students have the convenience of finding everything in one place," said Miller. Parents now have access to the nation's largest inventory of used books and have the convenience of online ordering and at-home delivery. But, according to Miller, "The major advantage of going with MBS is being able to get updated books." Teachers are using the most up-to-date resources and the AP courses for example, are now using college-level textbooks. In addition, parents have the benefit of participating in a textbook buyback at the end of the school year, which offers even more savings and increased availability of quality used textbooks. The burdens have been lifted for the staff at Trinity School of Texas, and the parents and students are benefiting from an increased focus on learning, not on books.
